"If you get it wrong, the headaches can outweigh the benefits. You have to look at the whole infrastructure, not just one or two elements, because in a virtualised environment, everything has a knock-on effect on everything else, more here

At work, stay aligned with your boss’s objectives rather than focusing on your pet projects, so that your work remains consistent with what’s most critical to management.

Your boss wants to delegate as much as possible — as long as you make the process worry-free. Know when to stay away if you expect a tantrum is coming down the hall.

Use humor, or what I call "the great diffuser" of tension, to break down interpersonal logjams. Laughter helps create bonds and reminds us of our larger purpose: to work together with upbeat, constructive energy. We can and should be able to accomplish great things as a team at work, while having some fun. Take the initiative to do this and watch the seething subside

Let yourself shine by being a problem-solver and collaborator. You can be a beacon of positive energy for your boss, co-workers and team.

Project the highest ethical standards and radiate positive energy. Maintain a balanced demeanor and approach each crisis (real or imagined) with a rational style. Your boss often needs a sounding board and you can be a valued voice of reason and calm when issues emerge.

Job interview Tips

2. Failing to Set Yourself Apart From Other Candidates

"You have to make the strongest possible case for why you are the best person for the job," Schoonover says. "Specifically address what impact you can have on sales, profits, costs, or productivity within the next three to six months. Use quantifiable achievements from past positions to back up your performance promise."

And the No. 1 mistake OI Partners’ coaches see job hunters make:

1. Failing to Ask For the Job

"You have a much better chance of getting the job if you ask for it," says Schoonover. "Close the interview by summing up what you can bring to the job, and ask for the opportunity to deliver those results."

In the past I made the mistake of accepting a position based on salary alone. That mindset led to hopping from one job to another, because I was never completely satisfied. Now, I’m looking to work for a company where I’m compensated well and the company values complement mine."

Based on the responsibilities of the job and my proven success in driving profits, I’m looking for compensation within the $60,000 to $75,000 range

How to work smart

Focus It is a common misconception that multi-tasking lets you get more work done. But, the truth of the matter is that people are less productive when multitasking and numerous studies over the years are testament to that. Changing the speed of work, increasing focus, concentrating on the task at hand, and working in parallel instead of multi- tasking will definitely bring about results. more here
